cornsCorns are small circles of thick skin that project inwards. They usually develop on the tops and sides or toes or on the soles of the feet.

Corns are often caused by ill fitting footwear, hammer toes, or in bony feet where there is a lack of natural cushioning.

Elderly people tend to get corns on the soles of the feet as they lose their natural fatty padding underneath.

Corn plasters are NOT advised as they can be very damaging. It is also not advised to try and cut corns out yourself.

Corns are treated by podiatrists by removing the overlying skin and enucleating the centre of the corn. Offloading methods can also be implemented and pressure relieving devices.
